Living and Working in the Southern Tier
Elmira, New York is located near the New York and Pennsylvania border nestled within beautiful rolling hills. The region enjoys four seasons with a spectacular showing of Fall leaf colors.  

Elmira, the county seat of Chemung County, is known as the "Soaring Capital of America."  The National Soaring Museum is located in scenic Harris Hill Park which hosts many World Soaring Championships.

Elmira is also known as Mark Twain Country. Samuel Clemens (a.k.a. Mark Twain) did some of his best writing during the summers he spent in Elmira, including The Adventures of Tom Sawyer and The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn. He and his family are buried in Woodlawn Cemetery in Elmira.

Our small city is located at the southern end of the Finger Lakes Region, and is known as the "Gateway to the Finger Lakes."  The Finger Lakes offer great recreational opportunities and have three unique wine trails to give you not only a taste of the great wines, but also great scenery.

Recreational choices are limitless on the Finger Lakes. You can fish, swim, canoe, wind surf, snorkel, water ski, sail, kayak or go white-water rafting on the lakes, the canals and rivers throughout the region. Or you can stay on land and hike, bike, golf, rock climb, bird watch, hunt, downhill or cross country ski, snowboard, or snowmobile.
