Help for Overweight Children
Join Arnot Health and Southern Tier Pediatrics for Fit Families in the Southern Tier (FFIST), an 8-week educational activity program for overweight children and their parents or guardian.
We start with a kick-off meeting, fun activities, and quick assessment. Each session includes 45 minutes of nutritional education and 45 minutes of physical activity. Recipes and activities are easy to do at home on your own or together as a family. A final assessment shows children and their parents how easy it is to lose weight and increase strength in a healthy and effective way.
FFIST meets weekly for 8 weeks in the fall and spring from 6-7:30 p.m. at New Beginnings Church in Elmira. Children, ages 6-17, who are cleared by their physician, are welcome to participate with a parent or caregiver. There is a $15 fee for materials. To register, call Southern Tier Pediatrics: 607-734-2264.
Most children double or triple their strength and endurance levels, and experience changes in their weight, measured at the beginning and end of the program. Real results and the support of their caregivers motivates kids to make positive changes in their lives.
