Aquatic Therapy Pools at Arnot Health
Arnot Health offers the only therapeutic pools for aquatic therapy in the Southern Tier. Our trained staff work with you to use water depth, water-resistance, body positioning, and a total range of motion to reduce impact and ease movement.
Therapeutic Pools
Our heated aquatic therapy pools maintain a temperature of 88-92 degrees and feature jets for resistance or massage. The pool at IVY II in Elmira is 20 by 25 feet with multiple depths and a hydraulic chairlift. The Horseheads pool is 8 by 18 feet and ranges from 3 to 5 feet deep.
Why Aquatic Therapy?
Your therapist or doctor may recommend aquatic therapy after an injury or surgery. Exercises use the natural resistance of water plus buoys, fins, or current to allow earlier weight bearing after surgery and more freedom of movement. Aquatic therapy is ideal for building muscle mass without damaging the joints. It is used to:
- Restore strength and build endurance for athletes, dancers, and individuals who engage in strenuous activity.
- Treat patients whose injuries make land-based therapy or exercise intolerable.
- Ease severe or chronic pain for patients with chronic rheumatoid or osteoarthritis, fibromyalgia, or other conditions.
- Begin weight-bearing activity following surgery or treatments such as ACL reconstruction, joint replacement, mastectomy, or interventions to the foot or ankle.
