Speech and Swallowing Therapy
Arnot Health offers comprehensive speech and swallowing therapy for children and adults. Each treatment program is customized and coordinated to maximize success.
Adult Speech Therapy
The need for speech therapy may arise from stroke, traumatic brain injury, or progressive neurologic diseases. At the first session, patients and family can expect a thorough evaluation with their input, resulting in a comprehensive therapy plan. Voice therapy is also available for certain voice problems.
Pediatric Speech Therapy
Arnot Health offers a full range of diagnostic and therapeutic services for children. The most common pediatric speech issues are articulation and language disorders. Arnot Health is closely affiliated with Chemung County's Early Intervention and Preschool Program for center-based services.
Adult Swallowing Therapy
Difficulty swallowing may be caused by stroke, neurologic disorders, tumors, gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), strictures, or diverticula. Swallowing therapy helps the patient and family learn the safest ways to eat and drink. Therapy may focus on mouth exercises, positional techniques, or diet changes.
Pediatric Swallowing Therapy
We work with parents and children to help improve your child's ability to eat and reduce orthodontic issues. We evaluate and treat reflux, food aversions, tongue thrust, and eating-related oral motor issues. Therapy is also available for children with dysphagia who receive tube feedings.
Videofluoroscopic Swallowing Studies
Videofluoroscopic Swallowing Studies (VFSS) is an advanced diagnostic tool available to speech language pathologists. By watching the phases of the swallow, the pathologist is better able to determine the cause of a problem and recommend effective therapies.
