Neonatal Intensive Care
Arnot Ogden Medical Center provides the only Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) serving Chemung and seven neighboring counties. The premature and critically ill newborns receive intensive medical care encompassing emergency, critical, diagnostic and therapeutic care.
The newly renovated, state-of-the-art, expansive NICU provides comfort and space for the newborn and the visiting family. The NICU at Arnot Health brings together a team of neonatologists, nurses, respiratory therapists, a physical therapist, social worker, lactation consultant and many other support personnel to work with families and provide comprehensive care for their newborns 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The NICU team consults with area pediatricians and provides counseling for high-risk pregnancies. The team also collaborates with regional university centers on patient care.
Quality care is backed by the latest in medical equipment and care is planned to address the individual needs of babies and their families using a family-centered approach. Families are encouraged to be involved in planning and to participate in care at every level of a baby's progression. A parent lounge is available near the unit and a room to stay overnight with the baby is available for use prior to going home.
In addition to this specialized medical care, the hospital provides supervised ground transport for high-risk mothers, infants and children throughout the region.
Financial support for programs, equipment and educational services benefiting NICU services at Arnot Ogden Medical Center is provided through annual fundraising efforts by the Children's Miracle Network.
