Nuclear Medicine at Arnot Health
Nuclear Medicine involves the use of radioactive materials to help diagnose and treat a wide variety of diseases and disorders. These radioactive materials, called radiopharmaceuticals, are injected, swallowed or inhaled, and then are absorbed by various organs of the body. The patient lies on an imaging table while being scanned with a gamma camera that detects the radiation emitted from the compounds in your body and produces an image. Common nuclear medicine tests include:
- Liver scans
- Bone scans
- Lung scans
- Thyroid function tests
- Thallium stress tests.
