Dr. Edward Joseph Grandt is well known in our community for his 40-year career as a physician specializing in obstetrics, gynecology and infertility treatments. Over the course of his career at the Ivy OB/GYN center, he delivered over 8,000 babies! He is regarded as a medical pioneer, and was one of the founders of the Arnot Ogden NICU and worked to change the delivery room policies to allow fathers to be present during childbirth.

Dr. Grandt was the past President of the Arnot Ogden Medical Staff, the long-time chief of the OB/GYN Department and served on the St. Joseph’s Hospital Foundation Board. The newly remodeled Maternity Department at AOMC bears his name to celebrate his many achievements and notable contributions.

During his career, he established the “Edward J. Grandt Obstetrics and Gynecology” fund through the Arnot Health Foundation to support improvements and education surrounding women’s health. Locally, he served as a catalyst for the development of the Planned Parenthood center in Elmira and nationally, he participated in research studies for the modern birth control pill.

Dr. Grandt was a key force in the establishment of the Elmira College Nursing Program and he served on the College's Board of Directors for 13 years. This past June, he received the degree of Doctor of Humane Letters Honoris Causa from the College for his many contributions.
