Arnot Health and UR Medicine's Wilmot Cancer Institute Announce Intention to CollaborateTuesday, July 19, 2016
Representatives from Arnot Health and UR Medicine’s Wilmot Cancer Institute announced today that they are in discussions to collaborate to provide medical oncology and infusion services at Falck Cancer Center located at Arnot Ogden Medical Center in Elmira, N.Y. Falck Cancer Center serves patients from Chemung, Steuben and Schuyler counties in New York, as well as from Bradford and Tioga counties in Pennsylvania. The discussions come at a time when local health systems across the country are forging relationships to ensure access to specialty services while improving quality.
This collaboration would allow Arnot Health and Wilmot Cancer Institute to address the needs of an area with a high incidence of cancers and provide patients access to additional providers and a broader range of services, including precision diagnostics, clinical trials and survivorship care. Each year, there are an average of 1,300 new cancer cases in Chemung, Schuyler and Steuben counties, according to the New York State Department of Health.
“Arnot Health is excited to elevate our practice of high-quality cancer care here in this community and to see our services growing with our relationship with Wilmot Cancer Institute,” said Robert K. Lambert, M.D., president and CEO of Arnot Health. “Working together with Wilmot means our patients will have access to the latest advances in the diagnosis and treatment of cancer — resources only an institution like the Wilmot Cancer Institute can provide — while remaining in a comfortable community setting.”
Wilmot is also in discussions with Twin Tiers Oncology, a private practice which has been providing medical oncology and infusion services at Falck Cancer Center for 25 years.
“Cancer care is more complex than it has ever been before, and it requires a coordinated team with expertise in many disciplines to identify the best course of treatment for each patient,” said Jonathan W. Friedberg, M.D., M.M.Sc., director of Wilmot Cancer Institute. “Our collaboration with Arnot Health would bring the same caliber of care and commitment to quality that we provide at our 11 locations in the Rochester and Finger Lakes region.”
Officials at Arnot Health and Wilmot Cancer Institute estimate a formal agreement could be finalized before the end of the year.
