Healthy Kitchens Cooking Series
This multi-session, two-hour-per-week cooking course is for all experience levels and ages, from teenagers to senior citizens. The primary focus is to define "healthy eating" and help participants develop their cooking skills. Each week includes approximately an hour of cooking and ends with sharing the delicious meals that are prepared. During mealtime participants discuss key concepts of nutrition and meal planning.
Learn how to make DELICIOUS and FLAVORFUL food, that just so happens to be good for you. You'll learn simple, healthful concepts to tie into your home kitchen while practicing basic cooking skills in a kitchen setting. The course isn't limited to cooking, however; you'll also learn all the tools and techniques to effectively meal plan, shop, and eat on a budget. Together we will discuss how different foods and techniques can help you eat well, get and stay healthy!
Interested in seeing the program at work? Join the LECOM Medical students as they work on their cooking skills and learn important nutrition information. Classes meet at 5:00 pm Thursdays at the Ernie Davis Center 350 East 5th St. in Elmira on September 20th & 27th, October 4th, 18th & 25th, and November 1st & 15th.
Culinary Medicine at Arnot Ogden Medical Center: Learning to Cook Healthy and Fresh
Healthy Kitchens/Culinary Medicine is now known as Health Meets Food. The same program just a new name.
The Culinary Medicine program was developed by Tulane University and brought to Arnot Ogden Medical Center and the Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine by Dr. Beth Dollinger, MD. For medical students it provides an innovative nutrition course that teaches them how to engage their patients in a meaningful dialogue about nutrition and lifestyle, looking to change to the existing conversation around exercise and healthy eating. The lessons will teach you how to cook healthy meals using fresh ingredients without spending a lot of money. Alongside other community members you will:
- Learn how to make delicious and flavorful food that just happens to be good for you.
- Learn about tools and techniques to effectively meal plan, shop, and eat on a budget.
- Discuss how different foods and techniques can help you eat well, get healthy and stay healthy.
- Eat all the delicious dishes we cook.

Community Health Award
On April 10, 2017, ArnotHealth was the proud recipient of the Community Health award from Excellus BlueCross BlueShield. This award came with a generous $4,000 grant to support Healthy Kitchens and culinary medicine in our community. Jessica Renner, Regional President of Excellus BlueCross BlueShield presented Dr. Beth Dollinger with the check, surrounded by medical students, physicians, and community members who participate in the program.
