Joint Replacement at Arnot Health

A joint replacement is a type of surgery in which parts of a damaged or diseased joint are removed and replaced with parts made of metal, plastic, or ceramic. Joint replacement surgery is also known as Joint arthroplasty.

When you have joint pain, our team works with you to create a plan of care that's right for you that may or may not require surgery. And if you do need knee or hip replacement, the Arnot Health Total Joint Advantage Program uses a comprehensive and innovative “well model” to get you on the road to recovery.

Extreme pain and stiffness are the main symptoms of a knee, hip or shoulder that needs to be replaced or repaired. When everyday activities like walking, climbing stairs, lifting or dressing become too difficult because of pain, your primary or orthopedic doctor may recommend replacement surgery.

One of the most common reasons for a joint replacement is osteoarthritis. Osteoarthritis is a disease that damages the cartilage that helps joints move smoothly. When that cartilage breaks down, the bones in the joint begin to rub against each other. This can lead to pain and stiffness.

Whenever possible, our physicians rely on nonsurgical options, such as

  • Injecting fluids to cushion the joint
  • Bracing for support and assistance
  • Strengthening through physical therapy
  • Medications to reduce inflammation and pain

If surgery is necessary, we are with you every step of the way through our Total Joint Advantage Program

Our team works with you to create a plan that is just right.
